XPost: alt.2600.madrid, alt.2600, alt.cyberpunk.movement       From: rek2@hispagatos.meow.org.invalid              February 13, 2025 | Citizen Lab Report No. 182       https://citizenlab.ca/2025/02/network-security-issues-in-rednote/                     ** New analysis of RedNote unveils network security issues **       ------------------------------------------------------------              The Citizen Lab’s first network security analysis of popular social       media app, RedNote, has revealed numerous privacy issues with the       Android and iOS versions of the app. RedNote is used by upwards of 300       million users worldwide, and has grown in popularity in the wake of the       US government’s decision to ban TikTok.              Through our analysis we found that both the Android and iOS versions of       RedNote fetch viewed images and videos without any encryp tion, which       enables network eavesdroppers to learn exactly what content users are       browsing. We also uncovered a vulnerability in the Android version that       enables network attackers to learn the contents of files on users’       devices.              We disclosed the vulnerability issues to RedNote and the developers of       relevant software development kits used by RedNote but did not receive a       response. We recommend that users who are highly concerned about network       surveillance from any party refrain from using RedNote until these       security issues are resolved.       Read the report:       - https://citizenlab.ca/2025/02/network-security-issues-in-rednote                     Happy Hacking       ReK2              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
