   HARTFORD, Conn. (TND) — U.S. Assistant Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel   
   Levine, who is a transgender woman, says "gender-affirming care" for   
   minors enjoys the support of President Joe Biden's administration, as it   
   has "support at the highest levels of the federal government."   
      
   Levine made the comment at the Pediatric Grand Rounds Session at   
   Children's Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut, where she was invited   
   to speak about the political implications of children's hospitals   
   performing gender reassignment surgery.   
      
   I can say that you, the children that you serve, the young people that you   
   serve, their families, and you all have support at the highest levels of   
   the federal government," Levine said during her speech.   
   President Biden supports you. I as the Assistant Secretary for Health will   
   support you and I talk about this topic, everywhere I go, to get the word   
   out," Levine added."   
      
   Levine also said that she believes the practice of medically changing a   
   child's gender will eventually be normalized.   
      
   I am positive and optimistic and hopeful that the wheel will turn after   
   that and that this issue won't be as politically and socially such a   
   minefield," Levine said.   
   The current U.S. Assistant Secretary of Health has a history of advocating   
   for transgender medical therapies for kids. Levine has claimed "gender-   
   affirming care" for minors is "medically necessary, safe, and effective,"   
   and that sentiment is the consensus among medical professionals.
