   as Microsoft.  The software you now have is licensed to the   
   one machine it was originally loaded to and cannot be   
   transferred to another machine.   
      
   I was involved with several cases where some of our larger   
   customers who had multiple mainframes they bought from us or   
   a third party and had one licensed copy of the operating   
   system which they copied and ran on all of their systems.   
   They were not happy when they were told they had to purchase   
   a license for each machine that was running it.  Some of the   
   software ran to five figures in a license fee.  IBM could   
   not include the software with the machine due to a Consent   
   Decree resulting form a federal case that was resolved   
   several years before I was hired so careful tracking needed   
   to be done to match the number of licenses to the number of   
   machines the customer had.  If he bought one used we only   
   found it if we worked on it or an IBM Marketing Rep or   
   Systems Engineer became aware it was there.
