That particular verse tells of the beginning of the Jerusalem Christians'
failed experiment with communism. If you read later writings by Paul, you
will find that the Jerusalem Christians were so destitute that he had to
take up collections wherever he went to support them. Some Christians in
Jerusalem were quite wealthy before, and many had productive farmlands.
communism made them all poor and dependent on others.

The Pilgrims also tried communism for a time, but reconsidered when they
   realized they faced extinction.
