   ## In my case all 3 would apply. There is no proof of a god. That doesn't
mean some "higher power" or "great spirit" doesn't exist somewhere in the
Universe. There is no proof one doesn't exist, although I find it highly
unlikely. If it does, it would be way beyond our comprehension, our ability
   to understand.
If it exists it has no ability to effect what mankind does, and may not
even care (Germany & the Jews for example). People pray and it's a 50/50
chance they get what they pray for - be that the life of a loved one, relief
from hunger or financial pressures, or to even bear a child. So why bother?
Those who don't pray also have a 50/50 chance to get what they want and
need. Some are religious fanatics, true believers and die horrible deaths -
like the Lillilid family here in TN.
This god would be genderless since sex/sex organs/reproduction would not
apply so why call it he/him/his etc? Life may have been seeded here in the
far distant past. Left to it's own devices to survive it adapted and
evolved to fill every nook and cranny of the globe.
And lastly, some promised "afterlife" is of no consequence here on earth
NOW. It has no survival or evolutionary advantage. I see it as nothing
more than a way to control people = "Do as I/we say or [fill in the
   consequence depending on religious belief.]"

"I cannot conceive of a God who rewards and punishes his creatures, or has a
   will of the
type of which we are conscious in ourselves. An individual who should
   survive his
   physical death is also beyond my comprehension,...;
such notions are for the fears or absurd egoism of feeble souls."
