I never read much of the Bible. I have never believed in any gods, and       I was in my early teens before I realized that there are adults who actually       believe the stories of the Bible and the other 'holy' books. I don't concern       myself with the content of the many different theistic belief systems, I       simply reject the claim that gods exist.                     > ... I have been giving them way too much credit. the other thing I have       > come to realize (that you realized long ago) is just how dishonest they       > can be, some more so than others of course. they will twist things around,       > ...              Like what?              > ... and as you have said before, it leaves one scratching ones head       > wondering to what extent that's a matter of stupidity, duplicity, or       > dishonesty. another thing about them is that they like (want!) to overly       > complicate things. ...              Come on... all we (atheists) say is that we don't believe in gods.              > ... I believe that's simply to try to give themselves, or atheism, more       > credibility. for example, with regard to UFO's.. no normal sensible person       > has any problem describing the reports, sightings, photos, testimony of       > encounters, etc., collectively as evidence for UFO's. ...              Show me an image that you think is evidence for a alien UFO having visited       Earth, and we'll take it from there. I've asked you to do that several       times, but for some reason you have failed miserably every time.              > ... so       > why do atheists? I believe it's all about denying the existence of any       > evidence for God. ...              Nobody denies that the Bible exists, or that people claim to have been       healed by holy water from Lourdes, and that many billions believe there is a       god. But it doesn't count as evidence. Most of it is hearsay and the rest is       ancient texts and downright lies. 'I washed my blind eyes in the holy water       and now I can see!!!' Sorry, that's not valid evidence, and if you think it       is, I believe you're the one with an agenda. You're the one who needs all       the BS to count as evidence for one reason or another. Do you have loved       ones, or family, who believe in a god and you feel the need to justify       their, let's face it, irrational beliefs in mythical creatures and       supernatural events?                     > ... they are trying to establish as a fact that nothing is evidence unless       > it is proof. ...              Scientific evidence will suffice any day.                     > ... but as we know, evidence does not need to be. the other thing about       > them, is that they think they are so clever,              !                     > and that their position is a superior one (to the point of giving them       > justification to deride the beliefs of others) when in fact the opposite       > is true! ...              A modern, naturalistic approach when trying to understand life, the Universe       and all the rest, is superior to one based on ancient superstitions and       myths told by uneducated, ignorant bronze age, goat herding, desert       dwellers. That's just the way it is.                     > ... how ironic! their well evidenced cluelessness clearly shows they are       > far from clever when it comes to these matters, and what can possibly be       > superior about the single idea that God does not exist!              It's what you don't have to believe in when you're not a theist that makes       all the difference.              > anyone who can come up with more than that one idea, ...              All the things you have the freedom and ability to feel and believe when       you're not a theist seal the deal.              > ... which is trivial to do, has clearly trumped it, lol! well, that's just       > some thoughts I've been wanting to get out there. please comment if you       > wish.                            --       Malte Runz              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
