   A Basic History of Israel
God called Abram out of the land of the Chaldees, from Ur. Ur is probably in
modern day Iraq. Abram was a Hebrew. We see in the rest of Genesis 11, which
is from what we call 'The Hebrew Bible' which is Genesis 1 to Genesis 11.
   Genesis 11 ends with the
naming of Abram as 20th in the line of Adam, through Shem and Eber. Eber is
the father of the Hebrew people. Hebrews fall under the Noahide Covenant and,
in our judgment, also partake of knowledge of Genesis 11:10 to the end of the
   chapter. We feel that
Hebrew Noahides can make an assessment whether they take in knowledge of
Genesis 12 to 14, which is knowledge of the Hebrew Abram BEFORE he entered
into covenant with God. It is a difficult judgment to make, which we leave in
   the hands of the Hebrew
Noahide community. It is not our place to make any judgment for their
concerns, though we might have an opinion which we would share if they asked
us. Abram was married to Sarai. Sarai was his half sister. Abram left Ur with
his family and came to Haran.
Then they came to Canaan and lived in places like Beersheba. Abram had a son
at 86 years of age which was named 'Ishmael'. By this time Abram had been
circumcised according to the covenant he had entered into with God. There was
   also a covenant of land
given to Abram, which is from the river Euphtrates to the river of Egypt. The
northern and southern boundaries of Abram's land is not defined in the
writings. Abram's wife Sarai was coveted by various patriarchs of the land,
but she was restored to Abram.
Ishamel was Abram's son through Hagar. Sarai didn't like Hagar and had Abram
cast her out, with Ishmael, but they survived and the Angel of the Lord
watched over them. Abram was promised a child from God, and that child was
   Isaac. Isaac had two sons,
Esau and Jacob. Esau was firstborn, but Jacob tricked him out of his
birthright. Jacob had 12 sons, Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Zebulun, Gad,
Naphtali, Asher, Dan, Joseph, Benjamin and Issachar and daughters Serah and
Dinah. Joseph got sold into slavery
to Ishmaelites by his brothers, who were jealous of him, and they took him to
Egypt. He had a lovely technicolour dreamcoat which had been given to him. In
Egypt Joseph gradually rose to power, and served the Pharaoh of Egypt. Jacob
   came to Egypt when he
was old, having found out that Joseph was still alive, and the people of
Jacob, who had been renamed Israel, dwelt thereon in Egypt, in the land of
Goshen. The Egyptians made them slaves, though, and Moses was raised up by
God, who was from the tribe of
Levi, who delivered them by punishing Egypt with plagues. The law from Mt
Sinai was given to the wandering Israelites. They eventually conquered the
land of Canaan and Joshua was the one who divided up the land amongst the 12
   tribes. There was a period
of various Judges, including Samson and Gideo, and Samson had amazing strength
because of his long hair. The monarchy soon started though, and Saul was the
first King followed by King David, a bloody man, but who was also after the
   Lord's heart. He slew
Goliath, cutting off his head after hurling a stone at him from a sling, and
he became famous in Israel. There were monarchs for many centuries, and
Solomon, David's son, had the Temple built. The Temple was ultimately destroy
   and Israel was sent into
exile in Babylon. They were in exile for 70 years. There had been many
prophets who preached God's message over the years, and in Babylon the prophet
Daniel gave prophecies about the Everlasting Kingdom of God. Israel was
   redeemed from exile, and the
Temple was reinstituted. Finally, as shown in Apocryphal writings, the
Maccabeans recovered the temple after the persecutions of Anitochus Epiphanes
IV, and the last prophets spoke of Elijah returning one day, preparing the way
for the Angel of the Lord,
who would stand and redeem Israel, usherin in the world to come and the
   resurrection of the dead.
