   How do you know? I am often in countries that are dictatorships and quite   
   poor. Most of the people there that I meet are patriotic (in the sense of:   
   loving their country) just as an American or Dutchman would love their   
   country. Being patriotic is mostly about culture, language, "feeling at   
   home".   
   Your criteria which make you patriotic ("being rich and living in a   
   democracy") are quite shallow, don't you think?
