   - Therefore we treat various people as if we were at war with them until we   
   learn otherwise.   
      
   It's a self-issued license for abuse.   
      
   Sure, things are different than in the past. But we still have to carefully   
   think out how we are going to conduct ourselves. Crucially, we need to   
   behave in a way that we would find acceptable when someone else treated our   
   nationals the same way. This is the basis for all these treaties that are   
   being ignored now, and if we don't take that into account, we are opening a   
   huge can of worms that everyone's going to seriously regret down the road.
