In "Edgar Cayce's Photographic Legacy", by David M. Leary, we find the
following captions regarding Gertrude Salter Evans Cayce:

"Another portrait of the 'light of his life', Edgar Cayce's beloved
mother ... or so she was all-inspirational until Gertrude S. Evans
became an influence with which to be reckoned."

"Gertrude Cayce, as son Edgar Evans will verify, was not only a
beautiful woman in many ways, but was a most loving, attentive, and
guiding element of remarkable stature to him ... "

"This fine portrait of the exquisite bride, Gertrude Evans Cayce
(photographed by the bridegroom himself; note monogram in lower
left-hand corner), was acquired from Hugh Lynn's office. Prominently
exhibited therein, it is Hugh Lynn's most precious memento ... After
all, let's not forget that this was his beloved mother, too."

"This woman of beauty, poise, character, strength, and fine intellect,
chose an equally unique man with whom she would spend her whole life,
and not until in her early forties did she learn (through those early
Cayce life readings, for most of which she was the conductor) that she
had made this choice prior to entering this lifetime."

"As both Edgar Evans and Hugh Lynn quickly admit, their mother,
Gertrude Cayce, readily shared with them and Edgar, not only the good
with the bad, but her honest, forthright, and often blunt viewpoints
of almost any situation in which her family was involved. Not only was
she Edgar's 'helpmate' and closest friend, she kept him in balance
(often with Gladys Davis' moral support), while guiding him through her
role of 'Readings Conductor'. Another unheralded great woman behind a
   great and famous man."

   Gertrude Salter Evans Cayce:

Thank you so much for being willing to experience and get through
virtually every sort of deprivation and humiliation and obstacle
and challenge and heartache because you believed in the depth of
your heart that you were saying and doing what God wanted you to be
and you believed that you were getting to where God wanted you to go.
YOU WERE RIGHT. And millions of people are beholden most of all to
you for the many benefits that they have gained because you were
willing to walk and talk with God. God bless you Gertrude Salter Evans
   Cayce.

   ADDENDUM ONE

In less than 24 hours after initially posting this article it came into my
mind to see exactly which Venture Inward issue Bob Smith last edited
and which Venture Inward issue Kevin Todeschi last edited. Voila!
I discovered an article in the November/December 2000 issue about
Gertrude Cayce titled "Gertrude Cayce, An Exceptional Soul", by
Leslie G. Cayce. (Thank you O Lord God for so soon bringing this to my
attention.) The article is quite good, and some of its relevant comments
are that when Edgar lost his voice doctors were mystified and offered
no cure and he thought his life was ruined but Gertrude's "unwavering
response foreshadowed how increasingly crucial she would become to
his stability. 'She was his strength and will to carry on,' Kirkpatrick
quotes a close family friend. 'She didn't give up on him when he would
have preferred her to do so, and when she had every reason to want to.'
... Within the Cayces' home there was a sure and steady equanimity.
Its source was Gertrude, say her sons. 'She didn't have an easy life,'
said Hugh Lynn. 'But she did love that man, and without her, anybody
will tell you, Dad would have gone off into left field. She just loved him
into focus, keeping ideals and principles in focus. It was beautiful. She
was the strength, the willpower behind him. He would go off on tangents.
She always stayed still, whatever he wanted to do.' Moreover, he states,
'it was Gertrude's patience and devotion which served to anchor him
throughout their lives.' A dream of Edgar Cayce's amplifies Hugh Lynn's
observations: Edgar said in this dream he "seemed to be led by Gertrude.
There was actually a string on me. While it didn't seem as something that
bound me, but rather a feeling of security from losing my way. At times it
was a cord, other times a heavy rope or chain. Others, it was a rope of
pearls and diamonds, then plain glass beads. I could hear her calling me
but I could never see her. I could even hear her urging Miss Gladys to get
behind me and push me, and I could feel her pushing me over a hill or
around a corner." It is also of note that even this article author states,
"Throughout her 42-year marriage, Gertrude Evans Cayce preferred to
live in the shadow of her uniquely gifted husband Edgar. And since her
death over a half century ago, she has remained a mysterious presence,
having left behind barely a trace of how she felt about the remarkable role
that she was thrust into in their life and work together. No known letters
exist. With the exception of her younger son, Edgar Evans Cayce, few
people today who knew her provide more than brief flashes of memory.
However, pieces of her puzzle begin to fit together into a complex portrait
as assorted sources are tapped, including her own life readings and dream
readings. As details in her life come into focus, Gertrude Cayce grows
increasingly intriguing, for the multiple challenges thrust upon her were
daunting. They began before her marriage in 1903 and continued until she
and Edgar died only months apart in 1945."]

   ADDENDUM TWO

I have many reasons to believe that I am that soul that had been
incarnate as Gertrude Salter Evans Cayce. She expired in year 1945
and I was birthed in year 1959.

Here is some of the incontrovertible black-and-white written evidence
