48c34a23       From: jdgraeme74@yahoo.com              Something posted reminded me of an old argument I had with a pretty       well educated friend some time ago. He maintains that the real name       of the group that fought for Irish independence was not the Irish       Republican Army but the Irish Republican Brotherhood. He also       maintains that Michael Collins and many of the leaders were anarchists       or socialists, but the facts were just covered up for political       purposes. I'm no historian but everything I've read stated that the       Irish Republican Brotherhood was the forerunner of the IRA around       1900. I'm not sure when the name was changed, and I've never seen any       evidence that either had anarchist or socialist leanings. But it's       possible, since those ideologies were popular (relatively!) around       that time. Has anyone else heard this or know a credible reference)?              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
