   Due to the preference for long weekends, in Massachusetts and New Hampshire   
   the actual date has no significance, but the holiday was Patriots Day,   
   celebrating the events of 19 April, 1775, when a force of British Regulars   
   attempted to confiscate weapons and powder and possibly to arrest a couple   
   of dissidents. By nightfall, they had fought their way back to the relative   
   safety of Boston a bit worse for the wear.   
      
   Or possibly the Marathon just provided a convenient crowd.
