   During the war in Vietnam, it came out that many members of Congress   
   routinely turned over all letters opposing the war to the FBI.  It   
   was clearly inadvisable to sign your street name or any other   
   identification to such a letter.  Anyway, as you note, they are   
   seldom read, since our elected representatives receive torrents   
   of garbage, perpetual motion machines, dead rodents, excreta, and   
   guides to other dimensions in the mail, and obtain important   
   communications in the form of neatly bundled 100-dollar bills   
   through other channels.
