   "Cadillac Desert: The American West and Its Disappearing Water" by Marc   
   Reisner. iirc it was published in 1986. It's not like people haven't been   
   watching Lake Merde dry up but I guess they were hoping for a miracle.   
      
   There are several theories why the Anasazi culture vanished from the   
   American SW, one of which is that they hit an extended dry spell. There   
   aren't any Anasazi in the Phoenix area anymore; maybe they will be followed   
   by the Del West tribe.
