I'm just including it in case it helps someone       >identify this film.       >       > The next thing I remember clearly, the main characters (Our Hero,       >Bearded Guy, and I think a girl, either his sister or his love interest)       >stop at some sort of bar or drinking establishment. Think Mos Eisly       >Cantina, crossed with a Black Flag show, but with a little green       >humanoid alien on vocals instead of Johnny Bob, Dez, or Henry Rollins.       >It is dark and loud, and the only thing clearly visible is the stage in       >the center of the room. If I recall correctly, the little green dude is       >short, skinny, wiry, and has a grey or white mohawk. He might have an       >earring. His age seems roughly equivalent to a human of 55 or 60 years.       >The music is very loud, with a lot of feedback, and resembles metal or       >hardcore music. The crowd is made up of all sorts of different species       >of hulking muscular drunk alien tough guy “biker” types who are       >continuously fighting each other, throwing things at the stage, and       >jumping onstage and attempting to beat the vocalist to death. The little       >green vocalist (“singer” doesn't really fit) has a mic in one hand and a       >mug of beer in the other, and his vocal performance consists mainly of       >yelling insults directly into the faces of the crowd, and to a lesser       >extent screaming the blues. Needless to say, this scene made as much of       >an imprint on my memory as any other part of the movie.       >       > The little green screaming dude joins the group, and becomes a main       >character. I'm pretty sure he was in the entire series, or at least in       >the second movie.       >       > And that's about all I remember. Our Teenage Hero finds out more about       >the Dome Thingy on his hand, completes whatever Quest he was tasked       >with, and everyone is happy in the end. It seems like it had one of       >those typical cartoon endings: once everything is resolved, all the main       >characters stand around in a circle, someone cracks a painfully corny       >joke or pun, and everyone laughs hysterically as the “camera” recedes       >and the sound and picture fade out. I thought this was a standalone       >movie, until the next weekend, the sequel was shown in the same       >timeslot. I think there was a total of 2-4 of these films shown on AFN.       >All I remember of the sequels is that the Hero manages to leave the       >planet and visit other places with his friends, with new conflicts to       >resolve.       >       > I hope this rings a bell with someone. I'd really like to track this       >one down and watch it again, partly to see how well I remember it. At       >the time it reminded me of Voltron (my favorite show when I was 4 or 5;       >it was the first VHS tape my family ever rented when we got our first       >VCR around 1984 or so). So it's entirely possible that I've confused       >some of the details with Voltron or some other anime from the 80's.       >Please post to the group if you can share any information regarding this       >film. The Dome Thingy on the kid's hand, as well as the green mohawk       >dude, are probably the key to identifying this film, since they are the       >things I remember best. I really appreciate anything at all anyone can       >contribute. Sorry for the long post!       >       >Thanks!       >-meursalt              Sounds like a truncated version of the Lensman TV series. The Lensman       movie was way different, opening with an early CGI scene with alien       spacecraft (Boskonians) pursuing Earth spaceships, the larger of which       gets away while it's "wingmen" escort ships are destroyed. I remember       it quite well, actually...              $$              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
