|    1980s otaku subculture?    |
|    22 Oct 03 03:29:37    |
XPost: soc.culture.japan       From: martin_donner@hotNOSPAMmail.com              I'm wondering first, does such a subculture exist? If so, what is it       called?              Second, if it doesn't exist, what do you hypothetically think it would be       called?              The 1980s otaku I envision are obsessed with American movies and television       from the 1980s and often dress like their favorite actors. One might       encounter a 1980s otaku who spends the day obsessively viewing taped       episodes of Family Ties, dressing like and taking on the mannerisms of       Michael J. Fox.              The name for this subculture should be reminiscent of other youth       subcultures, and have an authentic Japanese ring to it. (I'm stumped,       considering a katakana or phonetic spelling of a generic English phrase in       absence of something better.)              Any links to information on existing weird subcultures like this would also       be appreciated. (Like the rockabilly subculture, for example.)              Thanks.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
