|    Help! - Welsbach Gas Lamp Fixture or Lig    |

XPost: alt.marketing.online.ebay, alt.marketplace.online.ebay, rec.antiques       XPost: rec.antiques.marketplace       From: DouglasSteckel@rcn.com              Help please!!!              I picked this up thinking it was an unusual gas lamp but someone suggested       it may be a bar room lighter of some kind. It is about 9 inches ling without       the globe. The globe is very delicate closed glass globe with about 6 holes       around the top. Someone suggested is was meant to be hung in a bar or parlor       and the holes were for lighting cigarettes. A chain leads to some linkage       which opens the gas valve. It also appears there may be an always on pilot       light (The smaller porcelain piece near the bigger one. The inner metal ring       extends and retracts as one pinches the loops of a spring ring that come       through the housing at the surface. This implies something else was held       there. On one of the linkages is "Welsbach & Co." It has a chain that is       meant to be pulled from below to light it. There appears to be maybe a pilot       lamp always on and the chain when pulled would light the mantle.              Does anyone have a clue what exactly this is?              http://users.rcn.com/douglassteckel/DSC02882.JPG       http://users.rcn.com/douglassteckel/DSC02884.JPG              Thanks!              Doug              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
