|    Theft of books    |

   From: gemcgar@shoescomcast.net

On July 10th, a thief stole three rare books from a garage sale at my
home in Plymouth, MN. I reported the theft to the Plymouth Police. I
think the thief stole the books for resale. I am asking you to please
report this person to me or the Plymouth Police if he or she brings you
the books for sale or consignment. The number for the police is
763-509-5160. If this person contacts you, take his name and number and
after he leaves, report him. Do not confront him. He also stole a
collection of antique postcards. We are not sure how many he took but
the whole 'risqué' section was missing. These cards were from 1890-1920
and would not be considered porno today.

Here is a description of the books.

Science of Fishing by Lake Brooks, decorative blue/green cloth hardcover.
   Publisher St. Louis: A.R.Harding 1912
May have the name Johnston in the inside cover. Value $60-$80

Camp Life in in the Woods & the Tricks of Trapping & Trap Making
   by Gibson W. Hamilton
First published in 1881, this complete, illustrated guide reveals how to
catch everything from tigers and bears to squirrels and mice, and offers
general advice on camping and hiking in the woods.
   4 1/2x 7 1/4, 312 pages and illustrated. Green cloth hardcover.
This may also have the name of Johnston inside the cover or first page.
Value $200, very rare! (This may have been a 1909 edition.)

Guncraft by William A Bruette, burgundy cover
Published by: Forest and Stream Publishing Co. New York
Date published 1912, a scarce book. Value $100
May have the name Johnston on inside.

I am describing this from memory and some notes taken so I am not
certain of the publishing dates but they were very old. I researched
the books on the internet for information and prices before trying to
sell them. They were in the Johnston family for four generations and we
had just made the hard decision to part with them. We are very upset
about the theft. We would appreciate your help in the arrest of this thief.

   Sincerely,

   Grace McGarvie (owner of postcards)
   Jackie Johnston (owner of books)
