   His wreck of a profession was an incentive for the wife and I to avoid San   
   Diego County when we made trips to Long Beach in the last two years of the   
   last milennium.  (The closest we got was on the San Diego Freeway where it   
   crosses Beach Boulevard between Westminster and Fountain Valley.)
