   Anyway, Mercury has an atmosphere. Not much of one. The earth has   
   an atmosphere. No, it's not about having an atmosphere of THIS or   
   THAT, Venus has a very dense atmosphere.   
      
        ...so a thin atmosphere like Mercury's but composed entirely   
   of CO2?  It still loses it's heat at night.
