Social media users mocked Vice President JD Vance over his awkward answer
on whether he would run for the White House in 2028.

Vance is widely seen as the frontrunner in the 2028 GOP presidential
primary, but has not confirmed whether he will run to succeed President
Donald Trump. In a Tuesday interview, Fox News’ Martha MacCallum asked
Vance about Trump’s latest comments on who will be his successor.

“Something I don’t have to worry about now. I’ve got three years to go,”
Trump told reporters on Monday when asked if Secretary of State Marco Rubio
   could lead the GOP ticket.

“JD’s fantastic, and Marco — they’re both fantastic, I think, really. And I
think Marco did a great job in Munich," he added.

MacCallum asked Vance whether he wished Trump would back him for the top of
   the ticket.

“I think the president is very smartly saying, ‘We’ve got three years to
go, and how about everybody focuses on the job the American people elected
us to do, rather than something that is very far in the future?’” Vance
   responded.

Vance then suggested that the media wants to create a “conflict” between
himself and Rubio when there “isn’t any conflict.”

McCallum then pressed him further on the question.

“But surely, as vice president, you’d like to be president?” she asked.

Vance responded by laughing loudly at the question, asking: “Would I?”

He then reiterated that he wants to focus on his current job before
   thinking about the future.

“Why don’t I do as good of a job as I can at this job? We’ll work about the
next job sometimes in the future,” he said.

Social media users roasted Vance’s response to the question, with many
   calling him “unlikable."

"It’s truly impressive how unlikable JD Vance is," Republican Sarah
Matthews wrote on social media platform X.

Journalist Ahmed Baba wrote: “JD Vance has negative rizz. Anti-aura.
   Unlimited lame.”

Progressive influencer Jack Cocchiarella asked: “Has anyone ever been this
   unlikable?”

Political commentator Camille Mackenzie told Vance to stop playing “dumb.”

“We know that’s why you took the job because being a no-name,
Frankenstein’s Senator wasn’t going to make it to be president having done
nothing of significance. You still won’t be president unless Trump is
impeached, so I guess it was all for nothing,” Mackenzie said.

Trump has repeatedly joked about running for a third term despite the 22nd
Amendment of the Constitution explicitly prohibiting him from doing so.

The 22nd Amendment reads: “No person shall be elected to the office of the
President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of
President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to
which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the
office of the President more than once.”

Trump told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” last year that he would “probably not”run
for a third term despite saying that he would like to. He has floated Vance
as a possible successor to him but has not officially endorsed anyone yet.

When Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked in August 2025 about Vance’s potential as
his political successor, Trump suggested that his vice president would
follow in his footsteps. He also noted that there are other potential
   candidates, including Rubio.

“Well, I think most likely, in all fairness, he’s the vice president. I
think Marco is also somebody that maybe would get together with JD in some
form,” Trump told reporters at the time.
