   Keep in mind the original "movie" was in fact a movie, shown in theaters   
   here in the U.S., as another Star Wars jump-on-the-bandwagon kind of thing.   
      
   In the theaters, his head was cut off.   
      
   When NBC decided to make the tv series, that movie was shown as the pilot,   
   either as a three hour special (adding in commericals) or one of those   
   over-two-nights mini dramas.   
      
   They edited that scene (along with a few other minor issues) so Baltar lived   
   at the end.   
      
   I suppose at some point the original movie could of been broadcast on the   
   air as a saturday night "at the movies", unedited, probably more than once.   
      
   They milked that whole thing as best they could because of money poured into   
   it. As cheesy as the tv show looks now, I think it earned title (for the   
   time) as being the most expensive tv show in production. I guess they   
   figured if Star Wars cleaned up at the box office, when it did, a similar   
   story on television would do the same.
