This has (at least) two sequels, _The Microcolony_ and
_Revolt of the Micronauts_. All three paperbacks are
sitting on my shelf. But I don't recall any closed sphere.
The Micro books took place in a garden, and had
bioengineered tiny humans who were being tele-puppeted by
sleeping full-size people, IIRC. The tone of the works was
depressing, with an undetailed dystopia hinted at beyond the
walls, and tiny people fighting with giant bugs within them.
Frankly, if you want that sort of book, _Insect Warriors_ by
   Rex Dean Levie is better.
