   No, but you don't *have* to know the original to appreciate the "New"   
   one. As someone who saw the original as a kid and seen a few episodes   
   on Sci Fi when they rebroadcasted marathons I would say it would be a   
   bonus on a curiosity level but not a requirement for people to know   
   about the old one to appreciate the new one.
