Yep, it depends on the breed. I did later look it up in one of my dog books
   where it says:

Life expectancy statistics from Britain show that the median
life expectancy of crossbreed dogs is 13.2 years

It has become clear that some pure-breeds have shorter life
expectancies than those of random-breeds. Bermese Mountain
Dogs, Bulldogs, and Irish Wolfhounds, as examples, have
median life expectancies of around seven years. On the other
side of the equation, Whippets, Minature Poodles, and
Dachshunds, Bedlington and Jack Russell terriers have
median life expectancies of over 14 years.

As with human beings, modern medicine has extended life expectancies, but of
course many of these dogs have been created by man's interferrence which has
caused some breeds to have all sorts of problems - and some of those mean
the overall average / median is lower than it should be.
