Star Trek had an episode back in the 1960's about an Earth space probe that
grew in intelligence and came back as a threat to destroy all life on Earth.
That episode was later made into the first Star Trek movie.

Neither Star Trek, Terminator, nor Battlestar Galactica originate this idea
nor are they copies off of each other simply because they share that same
   idea.
