   to set up their own Fidonet feeds that would be totally separate from   
   the old fogeys one, but never went anywhere because anyone who didn't   
   want to put up with the power trip games that were part-and-parcel to   
   what Fidonet was run on simply dumped Opus and went with WWIV and   
   WWIVnet. Especially if you loved tinkering with the BBS source code   
   and didn't want someone telling you how to run your BBS and who you   
   could or couldn't allow access.
