           That's not entirely true (not any more). Just watched the third   
   season episode "Hero."  Adama was commander of the Battlestar Valkyrie. He   
   sent Bulldog in a Raptor (or Viper) across the Armistice Line to see what   
   the Colons were up to. He had to shoot Bulldog down to keep Cylon raiders   
   from finding out he had crossed into their space. Later Adama was assigned   
   to the Galactica as a kind of punishment for almost being found out (as I   
   understand it). If there were two battlestars, I'm sure there were more.
