What else would you use a base ship for?

And what would you use the base ships for if not for a similar opponent?

It cuts both ways. If there are no battlestars, why would the Cylons build
a base ship? There is no "similar opponent" for the Cylons, so what use do
they have for building one? Since they did build base ships, it is a "very
logical assumption" that they were built to combat the battlestars.

So which come first, da chicken or de egggggggggg?
