   What do we use nukes for? As a deterrant. Mutual Assured Destruction.   
   Many weapons are built never intending to be actually used, except as a   
   threat. For instance, fusion bombs. H-bombs and Cobalt bombs sole   
   purpose are the horrid threat they imply. Starwars Deathstar was the   
   same, so why not base ships and Battlestars?   
      
   And about 100K cylons, if you don't think that's a lot, you must be   
   high. Imagine a hundred thousand tanks that could climb trees or go up   
   an elevator to the top floor and grab the high ground. Now imagine   
   having to clear them out of their fortified positions, especially if   
   they have logically placed them so they could support of each other.
