|    At last, my take on 'new vs. old BSG'.    |

No new posts here since 4/25/12.
I was on this group before the 'reboot' and stayed away from all the
hullabaloo that invaded. i was reserving judgement. i saw the initial
reaction of the oldguard fans of 'real BsG' scorning the 'reimagining'.
i was, and am, a fan of the original BSG.
but i also withheld judgement until i saw the New Version.
In hindsight the cries of the original fans was swept away in the rave
reviews and rabid fandom of the new series, which in many minds, is the
ONLY BattleStar Galactica. The Original has been reduced to a curiosity
and somewhat of a campy joke.
I remember the comic book relaunches of 'classic' BSG by Maximum and
Realm presses in the mid-9o's and Richard Hatch's novels and efforts to
get BSG back on the screen. i felt excited that at last galactica was
printing out NEW material in nearly 15 years!
But all those efforts stumbled and petered out, though technically
Richard lost out to the Relaunch.
On to that: i have EVERY season and iteration of the New BSG on DVD and
find it a very well done production. i have gone back and watched
segments a number of times and get a new perspective every time and i am
truly sorry to see Caprica cancelled: the teasers for Season Two looked
very intriguing and the ultimate cancellation of the Blood and Chrome
   project sucks.
i buy the New BSG in the comic book form too.
But, i think they could have told the story of the New BSG in a series
where they could have invented their OWN universe without hijacking The
   Battlestar Galactica
milieu and retooling it for their needs. just keeping the facade and
seeming of the original but gutting the story elements and minutiĉ for
   their own.
it shows that, while there are still inventive writers in hollywood, the
studio heads are reluctant to invest in new 'names' and bank on
nostalgia and known properties to get new series across. it shows the
derth of creativity in hollywood nowadays as they ransack their vaults
and reimagine every series or movie even halfway popular and NO
treasured memory of TV shows past are safe from their desecration.
