   It's helpful to remember that BSG is a work of fiction and the writers are   
   free to take the story in whatever direction they want.  And in this case the   
   premise was that it took these earlier technological human societies just 2000   
   years from being    
   established to being destroyed through that technology and the AI beings they   
   created.  So far here on Earth it's been 150,000 years and counting since the   
   Capricorn exiles arrived and we're still around.
