I don't think theres anything wrong with being proud of an       R> >accomplishment, and I also don't think theres anything wrong with asking       R> >others would like to share in it. A "no" answer would have been fine if       R> >there was a lack of intrest.       R>       R> There is most definitely such a thing as over-zealous promotion. If you       R> mention your network in 90% of the posts that you make (which you seemed t       R> on DoveNet), people will get pissed, especially since this random XpresitN       R> mentionings were added to messages and threads which had absolutely nothin       R> all to do with message networks.              Actually, I didn't talk about it quite as much as you insist that I did. I       mainly got flamed for having an A-B conversation with someone about Xpresit,       and the C, D, E, F, and G who were tired of hearing about it started       flaming. Well quite frankly I wasn't talking to the rest of the alphebet,       just person B at the time :-)              R> >You can come on Xpresit and talk about DoorMud       R> >all you want and no one's gonna bitch about it.       R>       R> If I mentioned DoorMUD in every post I made about any topic, you'd better       R> believe people would get pissed off, and for good reason.              As I just said, if you were having an A-B conversation about it with       someone, no one would bitch.              R> Well, by my recollection (which seems to agree with Tracker1's), it went       R> something like this. It *WAS* met with a "no thanks, not interested" the       R> first       R> time you posted it, a polite decline posted by multiple sysops, including       R> moderator/hub of DoveNet. Then it was met with something along the lines       R> "um, still not interested" the second time you posted it. By the third,       R> fourth, and fifth times you suggested it, people were just sick of hearing       R> and flamed you.              This boils down to that A-B conversation thing again. People could have hit       their enter key. The specific people who said no I did not ask again, I was       asking the others who had not yet said anything. I figured asking them in       DoveNet was easier than internet emailing everyone in DoveNet seperately.              R> > instead it was immideately met with the general responce of:       R> >"F--- you, your mother, your father, your family, and your idea!"       R>       R> Your re-interpretation / selective memory of that thread is very interesti       R> First off, it was NOT *immediately* met with an offensive general response       R> This didn't happen until after you plugged your idea repeatedly for severa       R> days. Secondly, your posts in that thread included more profanity than any       R> else's, by a long shot, and is the reason you were banned from the network              Actually that was not the reason, and I know because Digital Man told me       straight up in internet email as to what the real reason was. He could have       cared less about the flaming or profanity. Jokester got banned because he       called DM a pussy and he didn't like it, and I got banned cause he was my       co-sysop, and it came from my board. As long as *he* isn't attacked, he's       not going to ban anyone. So Jokester got banned for his attack on DM, and I       got banned in spite of Jokester. *THAT* is what happened, from DM's own       words in email.              R> It isn't "auto-rammed". Although pre-configured, it is NOT completed       R> pre-installed. You must make a special QWK account on Vertrauen BBS and t       R> manually modify a Synchronet batch file to *enable* DoveNet. So clearly,       R> won't end up with DoveNet *unless you purposely go out of your way to enab       R> it*.              Saying pre-installed and auto-rammed are two different things is walking a       very fine line. How many DoveNet Sysops would have gone out of their way to       join the network had it NOT been pre installed? I think most were like "well       its not hurting anything being here, may as well turn it on".              R> Selective memory, again. LORD has *never, ever* charged for updates. If       R> registered the first release of LORD, your registration code will still wo       R> in       R> the current version. Ask any longtime sysop who has been running the game       R> that long :)       R>       R> As for BRE, I do not ever recollect an upgrade charge going into effect, n       R> do       R> I ever recall people bitching about it in 1995. It's possible that John       R> Dailey       R> changed the key system when he purchased the door from its original author       R> and       R> possibly he charged a single upgrade fee, but I don't believe that was the       R> case.       R>       R> See, you wonder why I make statements to you like "you don't know what you       R> talking about"... well, there you go, it's because you continue to make po       R> with blatant factual errors, like insisting that LORD had upgrade fees and       R> Synchronet rams dove-net down peoples throats without their knowledge!              I think you've got some selective-memory-itus yourself. I had already said       that my statement about the doors was not from first hand experience, rather       from second hand conversation. I never said I knew 100%. As far as DoveNet,       your twisting my words. I never said it was without anyones knowledge. If       someone is sticking a huge board up my ass i definately have knowledge of it       :-) Same works for pre-installing DoveNet. :-)              Time Warrior, Sysop: Malkavia BBS : ICQ: 25055930 (Chicago, IL)       Email: twarrior@malkaviabbs.com | Xpresit Net: http://www.xpresit.net       Email #2: xpresitnet@juno.com              ---        * Synchronet * The Whitehouse BBS --- whitehouse.hulds.com --- check it out       free usenet!       --- Synchronet 3.15a-Win32 NewsLink 1.92       Time Warp of the Future BBS - telnet://time.synchro.net:24              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
