From: mrbradremove@ll.net               all you have to do is ask. i would do it, if someone asked me and gave me       > enough information. all you have to do is ask. there's plent of helpful       > sysops out there, and they're not all stock running......                     the above is the point....              i don't think anyone says that rob is NOT adding new features to his bbs pkg       but i guess you are saying that graphics...and some people say docs and       others say       door configs are not keeping up with the other stuff or more 'programing'       enhancement       features that Rob seems to plunk out....              the standard default bbs pkg is too dull and people are too dumb (myself) or       lazy (myself)       to just run with the standard setup....i would prefer an everything but the       kitchen sink       version as a download and then take off the stuff i did not need or want and       maybe file       it on the side...but more of a prune it out approach then add it on       approach...              so what is needed is MORE help in an GROUP manner like LINUX or some such       someone take charge of the kind of graphics and menu changes or such       features of       the pkg..someone else get a group to run up door configs on a dev       machine..someone       else to run a group for tweaking docs...etc etc not to knock anyone this is       probably       done.....already...but it is a lot harder to organize...and a lot easier to       bitch about       it if docs or graphics or doors are not current...              but i think the main problem is NO ONE has time for that on a FREEWARE pkg       it is a lot easier just to program features and improvements to the core       setup and let       individual sysops tweak the stuff on their own....synchronet seems to have       a good       process for debuging versions of the software and help in that end and also       a dev       system for that as well...but unless someone or group really wanted to step       up       and do the same at the same level as the other programing stuff...well..it       is always       gonna lag and even if stuff was added in the non-programing end of       things....they       used to PAY comercial types to do that kinda stuff...you don't start LINUX       because you like graphics or docs....he did it cause he liked the programing       project       ...the other stuff has kinda a 'yech' factor for most programmers...and is       usually       given to others                            but unless someone really wants to start a group of sysops for these other       areas       like docs, graphics, menus, doors or whatever other tweaks could flesh out       the pkg       it prob an't gonna happen because most pkgs that do that have to PAY the       poor       fools to do docs....etc it (so i've heard) an't as much fun              on the other hand..              i might be possible to setup various complete 'tweaked' systems with a theme       or some       such to help troll in newbies to synchronet or whatever bbs pkg you have              have your default vanilla version of your particular bbs pkg              have another version 'tweaked' out with contributed menu choices or graphics       enhancements of various types..i know back in the day before everyone got so       'closed' on their 'work' ..i had a bbs pkg i liked i just would get a copy       (tape at the       time) and i'd have all them nice ansi graphics and rip space screens and all       that       and i'd simply change the name from the guy who copied it for me from his       bbs       to my bbs and move on from there....              so if someone had a more tweaked version of synchronet or whatever or a       group       of sysops offered some of there work in various themed pkgs..i prob would       just       get that instead              by the way....if you do get a system that way and the guy has like same       structure       system as you it sure makes door configs quick and easy...you might not have       the       doors he registered but slick and guick to tweak..if they are just sitting       there ready       to have your reg codes pop'd in              anyway.....like i said ...people don't have time....but if i had some bbs       pkgs       out there i was trying to push...i'd make one that had everything but the       kitchen sink       version of it...every door config i had already in the setup just ready for       the door       every odd ball graphic ....all the bbs mods a person had ready to download       and add       to the files area of your products tweaks...etc etc              then i'd go thru the large beast and just "prune" off stuff i did not like       or need graphic       or otherwise.....this especially would be the same for the web front end                     but then again i don't have the time to get my setup up again so what do i       know                            my 2c worth       brad       former sysop lost gonzo bbs              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate...
