   Hi Corey,

Agreed... I often though that if I ever came across so of that stuff they
call "free time" that I'd customize the worldlink module, or
optionally write a separate bridge module to link the worldlink module
directly into the IRC vector or give it the capability to communicate
directly thru IRC Hubs. That'd be one sure-fire way to increase WG
activity. With the accounting, control and WG's customization capabilities
that would make for one killer IRC server. Since the IRC protocol is not
that dissimilar (NOTE: For all those who are about to compare raw IRC server
commands to ANSI codes, I'm talking strictly in the look and feel of IRC and
not the technical bridge model) from the ANSI/ASCII dial-up days of the BBS
it would make a great leap to technology and fit right in. Imagine being
able to do things such as launch and entire file area as an IRC F-Serv or
XDCC server. Even better from an IRCOp / Hub / Server Owners point of view,
Imagine how much more that could be expanded on a typical IRC Network thru
the use of BBS Doors, or better yet customized mods to provide Shells,
Egg-Drop's, Bots, and anything else you can imagine that is possible thru
WG. The other side of the coin that makes the project interesting is that
as a simple multi-directional protocol, IRC can be used as wide spread
access point (another A/A client, instead of telnet). A WG SysOp connected
and bridged to an IRC Hub could in theory provide a simple XDCC trigger
(i.e. "Type !LoginNow to access the whatever BBS or !DLClient to download
the C/S module... (Currently [75] of [255] users online)) which would launch
the IRC user into an XDCC (or even TELNET) session into the BBS. To the
user this would automatically be transparent to any IRC client such as mIRC
or vIRC already thus making the BBS accessible thru the IRC Client. If you
really wanted to spice it up, mIRC offers an easy format for DDE interaction
and since all WG C/S modules are simply 16bit VB Exec's hooking the WGM DLL
you could even have mIRC launch C/S modules with a little work.

I'm actually surprised that nobody has at least written an ADD-ON IRC Server
for WG. That alone is a straight forward and basic task as far module
development goes. in fact, there are a number of popular services that I'm
surprised nobody has released modules to push WG to. I wrote a .DLL/Add-on
that allows a user to page and chat ICQ directly thru the BBS by using
/ICQPAGE MSG, ICQCHAT MSG, and a few other features as well as
send SMB phone's text messages with /SMBPAGE . There are
tons of cool services that simply would require a small bridge then a simple
interface to take advantage of all over the internet. The benefit would be
that the actual work of the server for the service is not needed. WG just
has to TCP/IP it's packets to the correct port and in the correct format to
fool almost any internet service into working for it, then know what
responses to expect and you 3/4's of the way there because most services
rely on the rules of TCP/IP to enable access across multiple platforms.

OooOooOp's I guess I strayed a little off the main topic of Worldlink
. The one thought I've got from an IRC-WorldLink is that because IRC
is almost identical to GComm's initial creation "Teleconference" a bridge
(Just link worldlink is already) would take up 1 single line/license and
give you a teleconference with many thousands of users (at least on some of
the more popular IRC Networks like DALNet, EFNet, NewNET, etc.). I wonder
if this sort of module would violate a users license agreement since it
would make it possible to exceed the 255 user limit barrier in
Teleconference and some other modules. Perhaps not since all those users
will not actually be logged in taking up a line...)...

   Hrmmmm....
