   Maybe a fusion of both those ideas.   
      
   The POLL command could accept multiple addresses but also accept wildcards too   
   or something.  Like "mis poll 1:*/1 21:*" or something along those lines.   
   Although maybe this is overkill?   
      
   ... No one knows what's next, but everybody does it.
