    XP _can/does_ use AUTOEXEC and CONFIG files at boot.  Look for   
   AUTOEXEC.NT and CONFIG.NT I _think_ they're in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32   
   directory. Those are XP's equivalent to AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS   
      
    XP also has a wey to edit those files from within the OS itself (as   
   opposed to using...say...Notepad or whatever.
