   and devoured it.
5 Some seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil,
and soon it sprang up because it did not have deep soil.
6 (Jas 1:11) But when the sun rose, it was scorched. And because it had
   no root, it withered away.
7 (Jer 4:3) Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up
and choked it, and it yielded no grain.
8 (Ge 26:12; Mk 4:20) And other seed fell on good ground, and it yielded
grain that sprang up and increased by thirty, sixty,
or a hundred times as much."
9 (Mt 11:15) Then He said to them, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

[1] And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto
   him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea;
and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land.
[2] And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his
   doctrine,
[3] Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:
[4] And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the
fowls of the air came and devoured it up.
[5] And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and
immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:
[6] But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it
   withered away.
[7] And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and
   it yielded no fruit.
[8] And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and
increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an
   hundred.
[9] And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

   Matthew 13:1-9

   Matthew 13

   The Parable of the Sower
   Mk 4:1-9; Lk 8:4-8

1 (Mt 13:36; Mk 2:13) That same day Jesus went out of the house
   and sat beside the sea.
2 (Lk 5:3) Great crowds assembled around Him, so that He went into a boat
and sat there. And the whole assembly stood on the shore.
3 (Mt 13:10-13; 13:34-35) Then He told them many things in parables, saying,
"Listen! A sower went out to sow.
4 While he sowed, some seeds fell beside the path, and the birds came
   and devoured them.
5 But other seeds fell on rocky ground where they did not have much soil,
and immediately they sprang up because they did not have deep soil.
6 But when the sun rose, they were scorched. And because they did not take
   root, they withered away.
7 Some seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.
8 (Ge 26:12; Mt 13:23) But other seeds fell into good ground and produced
grain: a hundred, sixty, or thirty times as much.
9 (Mt 11:15; Rev 2:7) Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear."

[1] The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.
[2] And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went
into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.
[3] And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower
   went forth to sow;
[4] And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came
   and devoured them up:
[5] Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and
forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:
[6] And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no
   root, they withered away.
[7] And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:
[8] But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an
   hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
[9] Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

   Luke 8:4-8

   The Parable of the Sower
   Mt 13:1-9; Mk 4:1-9

4 When a large crowd had gathered together and people were coming to Him
from every city, He told this parable:
5 "A sower went out to sow his seed. As he sowed, some fell along the path
and was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it.
6 Some fell on a rock. And as soon as it sprang up, it withered away,
   because it lacked moisture.
7 (Jer 4:3) Yet some fell among thorns. And the thorns sprang up with it
   and choked it.
8 (Mt 11:15; Ge 26:12) And other seed fell on good ground and sprang up
and yielded a hundred times the amount sown."
When He had said these things, He cried out,
"He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

[4] And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of
every city, he spake by a parable:
[5] A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way
side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
[6] And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered
   away, because it lacked moisture.
[7] And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked
   it.
[8] And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an
hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears
   to hear, let him hear.

   Mark 4:10-20

   The Purpose of the Parables
   Mt 13:10-17; Lk 8:9-10

10 (Mk 4:34) When He was alone, those who were around Him with the twelve
   asked Him about the parable.
11 (Col 4:5; 1Th 4:12) He said to them, "To you is given the secret
of the kingdom of God, but to those who are outside,
   everything is said in parables,
   12 (Isa 6:9-10; Jer 5:21) so that
'seeing they may see, and not perceive,
   and hearing they may hear and not understand;
lest they should turn, and their sins be forgiven them.' (Isa 6:9-10.) "

[10] And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked
   of him the parable.
[11] And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the
kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in
   parables:
[12] That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear,
and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their
   sins should be forgiven them.

The Parable of the Sower Explained
   Mt 13:18-23; Lk 8:11-15

13 Then He said to them, "Do you not understand this parable?
How then will you understand all the parables?
14 (Mt 13:37; Mk 2:2) The sower sows the word.
15 (1Pe 5:8; Rev 20:2-3) These are those beside the path,
where the word is sown. But when they hear, Satan comes immediately
and takes away the word which is sown in their hearts.
16 (Eze 33:31-32; Mk 6:20) Others, likewise, are seed sown on rocky ground,
who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness,
17 (Mt 11:6) but have no root in themselves, and so endure for a time.
Afterward, when affliction or persecution rises for the word's sake,
   immediately they fall away.
18 And others are seed sown among thorns, the ones who hear the word.
19 (1Ti 6:9-10; 6:17) But the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness
of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word,
   and it proves unfruitful.
20 (Mk 4:8; Jn 15:4-5) Still others are seed sown on good ground,
those who hear the word, and receive it, and bear fruit: thirty,
sixty, or a hundred times as much."

[13] And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye
   know all parables?
[14] The sower soweth the word.
[15] And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when
they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was
   sown in their hearts.
[16] And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when
   they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;
[17] And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time:
afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake,
