XPost: alt.religion.christian, alt.christnet.christianlife, alt.       eligion.christian       From: usenet@christrose.news              The biblical data itself, not the shifting meanings of English words,       determines doctrine. Scripture shows that sign gifts like tongues,       miracles and healings were temporary. For example, the Greek middle       voice in “tongues shall cease” (1 Corinthians 13:8) indicates they would       “cease of themselves,” while prophecy and knowledge would “be done       away”       by an outside cause when “the perfect” comes. This confirms that tongues       were not meant to continue indefinitely.              Furthermore, Hebrews 2:3-4 testifies that the gifts already confirmed       (Greek ebebai       thē, aorist passive) the gospel message. The confirming       signs had served their purpose—God had borne witness through them—and       Scripture now carries that confirmation for later generations (John       20:31). No ongoing repetition of those signs is ever commanded or expected.              Later epistles like 1 John specifically tell the church how to discern       if someone is a child of God or a child of the devil. They mention not       one single thing about believers performing miracles, healings, or       speaking tongues as evidence of being a child of God (1 John).              For 15 convincing Bible evidences that sign gifts like tongues,       healings, and miracles (not all spiritual gifts, just the sign gifts)       ceased during the lifetime of the apostles, see       https://christrose.news/ceased.              --       Have you heard the good news Christ died for our sins (†), and God       raised Him from the dead?              That Christ died for our sins shows we're sinners who deserve the death       penalty. That God raised Him from the dead shows Christ's death       satisfied God's righteous demands against our sin (Romans 3:25; 1 John       2:1-2). This means God can now remain just, while forgiving you of your       sins, and saving you from eternal damnation.              On the basis of Christ's death and resurrection for our sins, call on       the name of the Lord to save you: "For 'everyone who calls on the name       of the Lord will be saved'" (Romans 10:13, ESV).              https://christrose.news/salvation              To automatically receive daily Bible teaching updates with colorful       images and website formatting, subscribe to my feed in a client like       Thunderbird:              https://www.christrose.news/feeds/posts/default              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
