XPost: alt.christnet.christnews, alt.religion.christian       From: usenet@christrose.news              Job’s longing in Job 14:13 does not redefine Sheol as mere       “non-existence.” Job speaks poetically of Sheol as the realm of the       dead, not as a place of relief from existence, but as a temporary       concealment until God’s appointed day of resurrection. He prays, “That       you would conceal me in Sheol… until your wrath be past.” Job did not       deny a conscious afterlife; he expressed hope beyond death. In the same       chapter he says, “You would call, and I would answer you” (Job 14:15,       ESV). That response proves consciousness beyond the grave—one cannot       answer if one no longer exists.              Furthermore, the Old Testament distinguishes between the experiences of       the righteous and the wicked after death. Psalm 16:10 says, “You will       not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption.” That       verse foretold Christ’s resurrection (Acts 2:27), proving Sheol was not       simply “the grave.” David’s body saw corruption, but his soul was not       left there. The same distinction appears in Psalm 49:14–15: “Like sheep       they are appointed for Sheol; death shall be their shepherd… But God       will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol.”              Christ Himself confirmed this in Luke 16:19–31. The rich man and Lazarus       were both in the realm of the dead. Lazarus was comforted in Abraham’s       bosom, while the rich man was in torment in Hades. There was       consciousness, conversation, memory, and anguish—all incompatible with       annihilation or unconscious “sleep.”              So when Jesus told the repentant thief, “Today you will be with Me in       Paradise” (Luke 23:43, ESV), He revealed the immediate blessed state of       the redeemed dead. After His resurrection, He “led captivity captive”       (Ephesians 4:8), bringing the righteous from Paradise into the presence       of God in Heaven (2 Corinthians 5:8).              Job’s plea was for concealment until that day of redemption—not       extinction. Sheol refers to the unseen world of the dead, but Scripture       plainly teaches two distinct conditions within it: rest and joy for the       righteous, torment and dread for the wicked. When Revelation 20:14 says       “Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire”, it shows not that       souls cease to exist, but that the temporary state of the dead will give       way to the final state of judgment—the lake of fire, where, as       Revelation 14:11 says, “the smoke of their torment goes up forever and       ever.”              --       Have you heard the good news Christ died for our sins (†), and God       raised Him from the dead?              That Christ died for our sins shows we're sinners who deserve the death       penalty. That God raised Him from the dead shows Christ's death       satisfied God's righteous demands against our sin (Romans 3:25; 1 John       2:1-2). This means God can now remain just, while forgiving you of your       sins, and saving you from eternal damnation.              On the basis of Christ's death and resurrection for our sins, call on       the name of the Lord to save you: "For 'everyone who calls on the name       of the Lord will be saved'" (Romans 10:13, ESV).              https://christrose.news/salvation              To automatically receive daily Bible teaching updates with colorful       images and website formatting, subscribe to my feed in a client like       Thunderbird:              https://www.christrose.news/feeds/posts/default              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
