   [35] Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting   
   him, and saying,   
   [36] Master, which is the great commandment in the law?   
   [37] Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy   
   heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.   
   [38] This is the first and great commandment.   
   [39] And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as   
   thyself.

   The Parable of the Vineyard and the Vinedressers   
   Mt 21:33-46; Mk 12:1-12   
      
   9 (Mt 21:33-46; Mk 12:1-12) He began to tell the people this parable:   
   "A man planted a vineyard, and leased it to vinedressers, and went to   
   a distant country for a long time.   
   10 (2Ch 36:15-16; Ne 9:26) At harvest time he sent a servant   
   to the vinedressers so they might give him some fruit of the vineyard.   
   But the vinedressers beat him and sent him away empty-handed.   
   11 Again, he sent another servant. But they beat him also, and treated   
   him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed.   
   12 Once again, he sent a third. And they wounded him also and drove himout.   
   13 (Mt 3:17) "Then the owner of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do?   
   I will send my beloved son. Perhaps they will respect him when they see him.'   
   14 (Ro 8:17; Heb 1:2) "But when the vinedressers saw him, they debated   
   among themselves, saying, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him,   
   that the inheritance may be ours.'   
   15 (Heb 13:12) So they drove him out of the vineyard and killed him.   
   "What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?   
   16 (Lk 19:27; Mt 21:41) He will come and kill these vinedressers   
   and will give the vineyard to others."   
   When they heard this, they said, "May it not be so!"   
   17 (Ps 118:22; Ac 4:11) He looked at them and said,   
   What then is this that is written:   
   ‘The stone which the builders rejected   
   has become the cornerstone'(Ps 118:22.)?   
   18 (Isa 8:14-15; Da 2:34-35) Whoever falls on that stone will be broken.   
   But he on whom it falls will be crushed to powder." (Isa 8:14-15).   
   19 (Lk 19:47-48) The chief priests and the scribes tried to lay their   
   hands on Him that same hour, but they feared the people.   
   For they perceived that He had told this parable against them.

   stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the

   [18] Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever   
   it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

   The Parable of the Wedding Banquet

   1 Jesus spoke to them again by parables, saying,   
   2 (Mt 13:24) "The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king   
   who arranged a marriage for his son,   
   3 and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding,   
   but they would not come.   
   4 (Mt 21:36) "Again, he sent out other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are   
   invited: See, I have prepared my supper. My oxen and fattened calves are   
   killed, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.'   
   5 (Heb 2:3) "But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his farm,   
   another to his business;   
   6 the rest took his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them.   
   7 (Lk 19:27) When the king heard about it, he was angry. He sent in his army   
   and destroyed those murderers and burned up their city.   
   8 (Lk 20:35; Ac 13:46) "Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready,   
   but those who were invited were not worthy.   
   9 Go therefore to the streets, and invite to the wedding banquet   
   as many as you find.'   
   10 (Mt 13:47-48) So those servants went out into the streets and gathered   
   together as many as they found, both bad and good.   
   So the wedding hall was filled with guests.   
   11 (2Ki 10:22; Zec 3:3-4)"But when the king came in to see the guests,   
   he saw a man who was not wearing wedding garments.   
   12 (Mt 20:13; 26:50) He said to him, 'Friend, how did you get in here   
   without wedding garments?' And he was speechless.

   [12] And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a   
   wedding garment? And he was speechless.
