|    Re: Soul and soul? Proof.    |

XPost: alt.religion.christian       From: usenet@christrose.news              While nephesh can refer to the person or life, the Bible also teaches       that the soul continues to exist apart from the body after physical       death. Consider the following evidence:              The soul survives death.              In 1 Kings 17:21–22, Elijah prays, “O Lord my God, let this child’s soul       come into him again!” (ESV, nephesh). The boy’s soul had departed, yet       it returned—showing the nephesh is not merely breath or physical life,       but something that exists apart from the body.              The soul distinguishes from the body.       Jesus said, “Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the       soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna”       (Matthew 10:28, ESV). That verse clearly separates body and soul—the       body can die, but the soul persists and faces judgment.              The soul remains conscious after death.       In Revelation 6:9–10, John sees “the souls of those who had been slain       for the word of God.” They cry out for justice. Their souls are aware,       vocal, and awaiting God’s response—fully conscious apart from the body.              The soul departs at death.       When Rachel’s nephesh was departing (Genesis 35:18), the language       indicates separation from the body, not cessation of existence. James       2:26 confirms this: “For as the body apart from the spirit is dead…” The       death occurs because the immaterial part departs, not because it ceases.              Christ Himself affirmed conscious existence beyond death.       He told the repentant thief, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be       with Me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43, ESV). The thief’s body would be       buried, yet his soul would be alive in fellowship with Christ that very day.              Therefore, while nephesh can indeed refer to “life” or “person,” it       also       refers to the immaterial self that survives physical death. Adam became       a living soul, but when his body returned to dust, his soul did not       vanish. Ecclesiastes 12:7 explains: “the dust returns to the earth as it       was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.”              To reduce “soul” merely to “person” or “life-force” misses the full       biblical picture. Scripture consistently reveals that the soul is the       person’s enduring self—the conscious being who continues beyond the       grave, awaiting either eternal comfort or eternal punishment (Luke       16:19–31).              --       Have you heard the good news Christ died for our sins (†), and God       raised Him from the dead?              That Christ died for our sins shows we're sinners who deserve the death       penalty. That God raised Him from the dead shows Christ's death       satisfied God's righteous demands against our sin (Romans 3:25; 1 John       2:1-2). This means God can now remain just, while forgiving you of your       sins, and saving you from eternal damnation.              On the basis of Christ's death and resurrection for our sins, call on       the name of the Lord to save you: "For 'everyone who calls on the name       of the Lord will be saved'" (Romans 10:13, ESV).              https://christrose.news/salvation              To automatically receive daily Bible teaching updates with colorful       images and website formatting, subscribe to my feed in a client like       Thunderbird:              https://www.christrose.news/feeds/posts/default              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
