XPost: alt.christnet.bible, alt.christnet.christnews, alt.christ       et.christianlife       XPost: christnet.bible, christnet.bible.study       From: usenet@christrose.news              1 Samuel 11: God’s Spirit Delivers Through His Anointed King              https://christrose.news/2025/11/1-samuel-11-spirit-led-salvation.html              Introduction              1 Samuel 11 records Saul’s first major act as king—the deliverance of       Jabesh-gilead from Nahash the Ammonite. Israel’s new monarchy faced an       immediate test. The people had demanded a king to fight their battles,       and now that king must prove whether he truly depends on God. The       passage reveals that real victory comes only through the power of God’s       Spirit and points to the greater Deliverer, Jesus Christ, who rescues       His people from sin’s bondage and unites them under His merciful reign.              Doctrine              This chapter teaches that God delivers His people through His       Spirit-empowered anointed king. When the Spirit of God came upon Saul,       he acted with righteous indignation, uniting the people for battle and       defeating the enemy (1 Samuel 11:6, 11). The victory did not result from       human strategy but from divine empowerment. The Spirit’s work through       Saul anticipates Christ, the true Anointed One, who came in the fullness       of the Spirit to destroy the works of the devil (Luke 4:18; 1 John 3:8).       Just as Saul’s leadership brought deliverance to Israel, Christ brings       spiritual deliverance to all who trust in Him. The event at Gilgal shows       that deliverance should lead to renewed worship and obedience to God (1       Samuel 11:15).              Reproof              This passage rebukes self-reliance and compromise with the enemy. The       men of Jabesh-gilead were ready to make a covenant with Nahash rather       than cry to God for help (1 Samuel 11:1). Their willingness to yield       shows the danger of fear and faithlessness. Compromise with sin never       leads to peace; it only leads to humiliation and loss of spiritual       sight. Many today treat sin lightly, believing they can tolerate it       without consequence. But friendship with the world makes one an enemy of       God (James 4:4). This chapter exposes the folly of trusting in human       arrangements instead of divine deliverance.              Correction              The solution to fear and compromise is dependence on the Spirit of God.       When Saul heard the plight of Jabesh-gilead, “the Spirit of God rushed       upon him” (1 Samuel 11:6), moving him to act in faith. Victory came only       when the people rallied under God’s appointed leader and trusted His       power. Believers today overcome sin’s oppression not by self-effort but       by yielding to the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:16). The same God who       empowered Saul gives believers His Spirit to overcome temptation and       serve boldly for His glory.              Instruction              Believers must learn to trust the Spirit’s power, unite under Christ’s       leadership, and give God the glory for every victory. The people       rejoiced in Saul but Saul directed the glory to God, saying, “Today the       LORD has worked salvation in Israel” (1 Samuel 11:13). Likewise, every       triumph in the Christian life must lead to renewed gratitude and       commitment to the Lord. God’s Spirit unites His people for His purposes       (Ephesians 4:3–6). Like Israel at Gilgal, we should respond to       deliverance with worship and renewed obedience (Romans 12:1).              Encouragement and Hope              God never forsakes His people in their distress. When His people cry       out, He raises up a Deliverer filled with His Spirit. The same power       that delivered Israel now works in believers through Christ (Ephesians       1:19–20). Even when fear or failure seems overwhelming, God’s Spirit       provides strength and unity to accomplish His purpose. The Lord who       rescued Jabesh-gilead still rescues those who trust in Him.              Invitation              Just as Israel faced destruction without God’s anointed king, so all       mankind faces eternal ruin without Christ. Sin enslaves and blinds just       as Nahash sought to blind Israel. But God sent His Anointed One, Jesus       Christ, to deliver us through His death and resurrection. On the cross,       He bore the judgment we deserved, satisfying God’s righteous wrath       against our sins (Romans 5:8–9). He died in our place, rose again, and       now reigns as Lord over all. You must change your mind about sin and       turn to Him in faith. Call on the name of the Lord, trusting His atoning       death and resurrection for your salvation (Romans 10:9–13). Those who do       are forgiven, delivered, and brought into His everlasting kingdom.              --       Have you heard the good news Christ died for our sins (†), and God       raised Him from the dead?              That Christ died for our sins shows we're sinners who deserve the death       penalty. That God raised Him from the dead shows Christ's death       satisfied God's righteous demands against our sin (Romans 3:25; 1 John       2:1-2). This means God can now remain just, while forgiving you of your       sins, and saving you from eternal damnation.              On the basis of Christ's death and resurrection for our sins, call on       the name of the Lord to save you: "For 'everyone who calls on the name       of the Lord will be saved'" (Romans 10:13, ESV).              https://christrose.news/salvation              To automatically receive daily Bible teaching updates with colorful       images and website formatting, subscribe to my feed in a client like       Thunderbird:              https://www.christrose.news/feeds/posts/default              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
