   the place where God resides (Heaven), and it didn't mean the   
   atmosphere surrounding the earth (heavens) either.   
      
   Just like in Peter's version, the "Heavens" means those in a ruling   
   position, those that are high up in authority. God will remove all of   
   them, and let His Kingdom government be the new "heaven".   
      
   And so the EARTH doesn't mean the planet. It means the wicked humans   
   living on it. They will be gone. You will look for them in their   
   places, and they will not be there.   
      
   Just like in Genesis, the KJV said the "earth" was "destroyed":   
      
   - King James   
   Genesis 9:11  And I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall   
   all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall   
   there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.   
      
   We know the planet wasn't destroyed, just mainly the ungodly people.   
   And that is what Jesus meant, and Peter.   
      
   Thus there will be a NEW EARTH, one where the "meek" will live on it   
   forever.

   The Kingdom of God (for what a "kingdom" is, see Dan 2:44) is God's   
   government to replace all of man's imperfect governments.   
      
   Concerning Israel, God abandoned them as His special people long ago.   
   As Jesus put it:

   Matthew 23:38  Listen! Your house is completely abandoned.
