   Paul did not contradict Isaiah, and Isaiah did not contradict Paul.   
   Isaiah speaks of true deity. Paul speaks of a false ruler. Scripture   
   uses the word *god* for idols, demons, or Satan without granting them deity.   
      
   Isaiah records God’s own claim: “Before me no god was formed, nor shall   
   there be any after me” (Isaiah 43:10, ESV). The Hebrew el refers to a   
   true divine being. God states that none existed before Him and none will   
   rise after Him. He alone possesses real deity.   
      
   Paul uses theos in 2 Corinthians 4:4 to describe Satan as the “god of   
   this age.” Paul does not grant Satan divine nature. He exposes Satan as   
   a usurper who blinds unbelievers. Scripture uses the same language for   
   idols. “The gods of the peoples are worthless idols” (Psalm 96:5, ESV).   
   They bear the title but possess no deity. Paul echoes this by saying   
   “there are many ‘gods’ and many ‘lords’—yet for us there is one   
   God” (1   
   Corinthians 8:5–6, ESV). The title does not make them real.   
      
   Your argument would only stand if Scripture used the same term in the   
   same way. It does not. Isaiah speaks of actual deity. Paul speaks of   
   pretended authority. A false ruler can receive the title *god* without   
   sharing the nature of the one true God.   
      
   John 1:1 does not place the Word in the category of fake gods. John   
   places the Word on the divine side of the Creator–creation divide. The   
   Word existed in the beginning (John 1:1, ESV). The Word created all   
   things (John 1:3, ESV). The Word shares the Father’s glory before the   
   world existed (John 17:5, ESV). None of this language fits a creature or   
   a pretended deity.   
      
   Isaiah denies the existence of other true gods. Paul exposes counterfeit   
   ones. John identifies the Word as the true God who brings all things   
   into being.

   penalty. That God raised Him from the dead shows Christ's death   
   satisfied God's righteous demands against our sin (Romans 3:25; 1 John   
   2:1-2). This means God can now remain just, while forgiving you of your   
   sins, and saving you from eternal damnation.   
      
   On the basis of Christ's death and resurrection for our sins, call on   
   the name of the Lord to save you: "For 'everyone who calls on the name   
   of the Lord will be saved'" (Romans 10:13, ESV).
