XPost: alt.christnet.bible, alt.christnet.christnews, alt.christ       et.christianlife       XPost: christnet.bible, christnet.bible.study       From: usenet@christrose.news              2 Samuel 9: Grace for the Crippled Heart              https://christrose.news/2025/12/2-samuel-9-grace-for-crippled-heart.html              Introduction              David’s kindness to Mephibosheth in 2 Samuel 9 gives a vivid picture of       the grace God extends through Christ. Mephibosheth’s fear, shame, and       helpless condition mirror our spiritual condition apart from God’s       mercy. David’s actions reveal why we must receive the kindness offered       by the greater Son of David.              Proposition              You should receive God’s kindness              Because He seeks sinners (2 Samuel 9:1-4)              David searches for someone from Saul’s house to show covenant kindness       for Jonathan’s sake. Mephibosheth does not seek David; David seeks him.       This reflects how God pursued us while we were still sinners (Romans       5:8). Christ came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10). God’s       initiative rests on Christ’s substitutionary death and resurrection,       which satisfied His righteous demands so sinners could receive mercy       (Romans 3:23-26). Receiving God’s kindness begins with acknowledging       that He sought us first through Christ.              Because He restores broken lives (2 Samuel 9:5-8)              Mephibosheth enters trembling, calls himself a “dead dog,” and carries       the shame of his lameness. David then restores Saul’s land to him and       grants him a secure place. This pictures how God restores sinners who       trust in Christ. Through Christ’s death and resurrection, God forgives       sin, grants righteousness, and raises the believer from spiritual ruin       to new life (Romans 4:24-25; Ephesians 2:4-7). Receiving God’s kindness       means admitting our brokenness and trusting Christ to restore what sin       destroyed.              Because He sustains you (2 Samuel 9:9-10)              David appoints Ziba and his sons to work the land so Mephibosheth will       have ongoing provision. This shows steady, guaranteed sustenance under       the king’s kindness. It points to Christ, who sustains all who come to       Him. He gives Himself as the bread of life, promising that the one who       comes to Him will never hunger and the one who believes in Him will       never thirst (John 6:35). God supplies every spiritual need through the       risen Christ (Philippians 4:19). Receiving God’s kindness includes       trusting Christ to nourish, sustain, and strengthen you daily.              Because He adopts you (2 Samuel 9:11-13)              Mephibosheth called himself a “dead dog” (2 Samuel 9:8), expecting       rejection, but David lifted him and treated him “as one of the king’s       sons” (2 Samuel 9:11). Adoption gave him identity, belonging, honor, and       permanence. Apart from Christ, sinners remain outside God’s household       with no rightful claim to sonship. Adoption meets the believer’s need       for belonging and gives a secure place in God’s family forever. Through       Christ, God brings sinners into His household and grants peace with Him       (Ephesians 2:13-19). “You have received the Spirit of adoption as sons”       (Romans 8:15, ESV), and “to all who did receive him… he gave the right       to become children of God” (John 1:12, ESV). Christ’s death and       resurrection open the way for intimate fellowship with God, and His       intercession keeps us in that fellowship (Hebrews 4:14-16). Receiving       God’s kindness means trusting Christ for full acceptance and drawing       near to God in confidence.              Invitation              The kindness David shows Mephibosheth points to the far greater kindness       God extends through Christ. We approach God with nothing to offer,       because our sin leaves us broken and guilty (Romans 3:23). Yet Christ       died for our sins and rose again, satisfying God’s justice and making       forgiveness possible (1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Romans 3:24-26). God saves       by grace through faith apart from works (Ephesians 2:8-9). He promises       to save all who call on the name of the Lord (Romans 10:9-13). Receive       His kindness today by turning from your sin, admitting your need, and       trusting in the risen Christ who seeks you, restores you, sustains you,       and grants you fellowship with God forever.              --       Have you heard the good news Christ died for our sins (†), and God       raised Him from the dead?              That Christ died for our sins shows we're sinners who deserve the death       penalty. That God raised Him from the dead shows Christ's death       satisfied God's righteous demands against our sin (Romans 3:25; 1 John       2:1-2). This means God can now remain just, while forgiving you of your       sins, and saving you from eternal damnation.              On the basis of Christ's death and resurrection for our sins, call on       the name of the Lord to save you: "For 'everyone who calls on the name       of the Lord will be saved'" (Romans 10:13, ESV).              https://christrose.news/salvation              To automatically receive daily Bible teaching updates with colorful       images and website formatting, subscribe to my feed in a client like       Thunderbird:              https://www.christrose.news/feeds/posts/default              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
