XPost: alt.christnet.bible, alt.christnet.christnews, alt.christ       et.christianlife       XPost: christnet.bible, christnet.bible.study       From: usenet@christrose.news              2 Samuel 23: You Should Fight Evil With Courage              https://christrose.news/2025/12/2-samuel-23-you-should-fight-evil-with.html              Introduction              David’s last words come at the close of a long life marked by sin,       repentance, warfare, mercy, and covenant grace. As David looks back, he       does not boast in victories or strength. He magnifies what God has done       through him and what God has promised beyond him. His final testimony       presses forward to Christ and calls God’s people to courageous obedience       in light of redemption.              Proposition              You should fight sin with courage. 2 Samuel 23 shows several reasons.              Because Christ atoned for our sins (23:1)              David identifies himself as the son of Jesse. God emphasizes David’s       lowliness to show that the promised King would come down in humility to       take on human flesh (Isaiah 11:1). Jesus is the son of David and the       root of Jesse (Matthew 1:1; Romans 15:12). He came in the likeness of       sinful flesh and for sin, and God condemned sin in the flesh (Romans       8:3). He bore our sins in His body on the tree (1 Peter 2:24). Because       Christ died to sin once for all, we are to consider ourselves dead to       sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus (Romans 6:10–11). You should fight       sin with courage, because Christ atoned for our sins.              Because Christ ascended to heaven (23:1b)              God raised David on high. He lifted a shepherd to the throne. In the       same way, God raised Christ from the dead (Acts 2:32). He seated Him at       His right hand in the heavenly places (Ephesians 1:20). Christ rose to       newness of life (Romans 6:4). God raised us up with Him and seated us       with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:5–6).       Therefore, you should fight sin with courage.              Because God anointed Christ (23:1c)              God anointed David king (1 Samuel 16:13). Anointing pictures the       empowering work of the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 61:1). The Holy Spirit       descended on Christ like a dove (Matthew 3:16). God anointed Jesus of       Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power (Acts 10:38). Christ sent       the Holy Spirit to indwell believers (John 14:16–17). The Spirit       empowers believers to put to death the deeds of the body (Romans 8:13)       and to proclaim the gospel with boldness (Acts 1:8). You should fight       sin with courage, because God anointed you.              Because Christ speaks through Scripture (23:2–3)              David spoke by the Spirit of the LORD. His words came from God. Christ       is the Word of God Himself (John 1:1, 14). He sent the Holy Spirit to       teach us the deep things of God (1 Corinthians 2:10–13). You should       fight sin with courage, because God gave you His instructions (Psalm       119:9). They are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in       Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 3:15). They teach us to put sin to death       (Colossians 3:5) and to resist the devil (James 4:7).              Because Christ delivers justice (23:3b–4)              David ruled justly, and the fear of God brought light and blessing to       the people (2 Samuel 23:3–4). This light inspired men to fight with       courage (2 Samuel 23:8–39; Hebrews 11). Christ rules with perfect       justice (Isaiah 9:6–7). He is the true light (John 8:12). He delivered       us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His       beloved Son (Colossians 1:13). He calls us to walk as children of light       (Ephesians 5:8), by putting off the old man with its practices       (Colossians 3:9). You should fight sin with courage, because Christ       delivers justice and light.              Because God keeps His promises (23:5)              God made an everlasting covenant with David. God’s covenants form a       secure rock on which to stand (2 Samuel 7:12–16). The man who builds his       house on God’s words stands firm against storm and flood (Matthew       7:24–25). Christ established the new covenant in His blood (Luke 22:20).       God promises redemption and the forgiveness of sins (Ephesians 1:7). He       promises adoption as sons (Galatians 4:4–5). He delivers us from the       penalty of sin (Romans 8:1), the power of sin (Romans 6:14), and the       presence of sin (Romans 8:23). He indwells and seals us with the Holy       Spirit (Ephesians 1:13–14). He will raise us from the dead (1       Corinthians 15:52). He promises we will reign with Him (2 Timothy 2:12).       He promises an eternal inheritance (1 Peter 1:4). Nothing can separate       us from the love of God (Romans 8:38–39). You should fight sin with       courage, because God keeps His promises (2 Corinthians 1:20).              Because God punishes rebellion (23:6–7)              David describes worthless men as thorns destined for destruction (2       Samuel 23:6–7). Christ will rule them with a rod of iron (Psalm 2:9;       Revelation 19:15). God will repay with flaming fire those who do not       know God and do not obey the gospel (2 Thessalonians 1:8–9). They will       weep and gnash their teeth (Matthew 13:42). They will suffer torment       (Luke 16:23). They will be tormented day and night forever and ever       (Revelation 20:10). The fearful and unbelieving stand first among those       cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 21:8). You should fight sin with       courage, because God punishes the fearful and unbelieving with fire       (Hebrews 10:26–27).              Because God rewards the faithful (23:8–39)              Three thousand years later, these men still stand as witnesses to       faith-fueled obedience. Hebrews 11 records many like them. Without faith       it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). Christ promises to reward       faithful service (Matthew 16:27). God’s rewards include glory (Romans       8:18; 1 Peter 5:10). Before the cross, Christ prayed for the restoration       of His glory (John 17:5). When Stephen was being stoned, God       strengthened him by revealing Christ standing at the right hand of God       (Acts 7:55–56). Paul taught that present suffering cannot compare with       coming glory (Romans 8:18). Men strive for a fading crown. God promises       an imperishable one (1 Corinthians 9:25). How much more should we fight       sin with courage in hope of God’s reward and glory.              Invitation              Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, He was buried, and       He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures (1       Corinthians 15:3–4). God calls every man to change his mind about sin       and self and to rely on Christ alone. Salvation rests not in effort,       resolve, or religion, but in the finished work of Christ. Call on the              [continued in next message]              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
