XPost: alt.christnet.bible, alt.christnet.christnews, alt.christ       et.christianlife       XPost: christnet.bible, christnet.bible.study       From: usenet@christrose.news              1 Kings 19: Evangelize With Courage              https://christrose.news/2026/01/1-kings-19-evangelize-with-courage.html              Introduction              This chapter shows how God encouraged Elijah to continue with courage in       his ministry. After great victory, Elijah faced fear, fatigue, and       despair. God met him, corrected his thinking, renewed his strength, and       sent him back into faithful service.              Proposition              You should evangelize with courage.              Because God strengthens you (19:1–8)              Elijah fled for his life after Jezebel threatened him. Exhausted and       overwhelmed, he asked God to take his life. God did not rebuke him. God       sent an angel, twice, to give him food and water. Elijah rose and walked       forty days and forty nights in the strength God supplied. The text       stresses that God met Elijah at his weakest point and sustained him for       the journey ahead. In the same way, God strengthens His servants       inwardly. Paul explained that he did not lose heart because God renewed       him day by day, even as the outer man wasted away (2 Corinthians 4:16,       ESV). Evangelism requires courage that does not come from natural       resilience but from God’s sustaining power.              Because God’s word saves (19:9–13)              God questioned Elijah and then revealed Himself. He was not in the wind,       the earthquake, or the fire, but in the sound of a low whisper. God       showed Elijah that His saving work does not advance through spectacle or       force, but through His word. This prepares us for New Testament       revelation. Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of       Christ (Romans 10:17, ESV). Paul said the gospel saves because God       Himself shines light into dark hearts to reveal the glory of God in the       face of Christ (2 Corinthians 4:4–6, ESV). Our responsibility remains       proclamation. God alone opens blind eyes and saves the lost.              Because God punishes the lost (19:14–17)              Elijah feared death because persecution arose as a direct result of his       faithful obedience. Those devoted to Baal sought his life because he       spoke and acted for the Lord. God answered Elijah by declaring judgment       on those who promoted Baal worship and opposed His purposes. God would       use appointed instruments to bring justice. This assured Elijah that       evil would not prevail. Paul used the same truth to comfort persecuted       believers, reminding them that God repays affliction with eternal       judgment on those who do not obey the gospel (2 Thessalonians 1:8–9,       ESV). This promise strengthens courage and endurance in gospel witness.              Because God saves the elect (19:18)              Elijah believed he stood alone. God corrected him by revealing a       preserved remnant of seven thousand who had not bowed to Baal. God had       already secured faithful worshipers. This truth steadies gospel labor.       Paul endured all things for the sake of the elect, knowing God would       bring them to salvation through the gospel (2 Timothy 2:10, ESV). You do       not evangelize in isolation or uncertainty. God has His people, and your       labor serves His saving purpose.              Because God relieves through discipleship (19:19–21)              God did not remove Elijah from ministry. He gave him help. Elisha became       his companion and successor. God relieved Elijah’s burden through shared       service. The same pattern governs the church. God commands believers to       entrust truth to faithful men who will teach others also (2 Timothy 2:2,       ESV). Christ commands His people to make disciples of all nations       (Matthew 28:19–20, ESV). God strengthens endurance through shared labor       in the gospel.              Invitation              Elijah’s account points forward to the gospel. God sustains weak       servants because salvation rests on His power, not human strength.       Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried, and       was raised on the third day (1 Corinthians 15:1–4, ESV). He bore God’s       judgment in the place of sinners and rose in victory so forgiveness and       life might be proclaimed. God now calls men to change their mind about       sin and self-righteousness and to trust in Christ alone. Call on the       name of the Lord, and God will save you (Romans 10:9–13, ESV).              --       Have you heard the good news Christ died for our sins (†), and God       raised Him from the dead?              That Christ died for our sins shows we're sinners who deserve the death       penalty. That God raised Him from the dead shows Christ's death       satisfied God's righteous demands against our sin (Romans 3:25; 1 John       2:1-2). This means God can now remain just, while forgiving you of your       sins, and saving you from eternal damnation.              On the basis of Christ's death and resurrection for our sins, call on       the name of the Lord to save you: "For 'everyone who calls on the name       of the Lord will be saved'" (Romans 10:13, ESV).              https://christrose.news/salvation              To automatically receive daily Bible teaching updates with colorful       images and website formatting, subscribe to my feed in a client like       Thunderbird:              https://www.christrose.news/feeds/posts/default              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
