XPost: alt.christnet.bible, alt.christnet.christnews, alt.christ       et.christianlife       XPost: christnet.bible, christnet.bible.study       From: usenet@christrose.news              Josiah’s reforms in 2 Kings 23 unfold in a deliberate and escalating       pattern. The chapter moves from covenant renewal to systematic       eradication of idolatry, then to restoration of true worship.              Covenant Renewal and Public Commitment (23:1–3)              1. Public reading of the Book of the Covenant (23:2)       2. Renewal of the covenant before the LORD (23:3a)       3. Binding the people to walk after the LORD and keep His commandments       (23:3b)              Purging Idolatrous Objects from the Temple (23:4–7)              4. Removal and burning of vessels made for Baal, Asherah, and the host       of heaven (23:4)       5. Deposition of idolatrous priests appointed by former kings (23:5)       6. Removal and destruction of the Asherah from the house of the LORD (23:6)       7. Demolition of the houses of the male cult prostitutes in the temple       precincts (23:7)              Defiling Unauthorized High Places in Judah (23:8–14)              8. Bringing priests out of the cities of Judah (23:8a)       9. Defiling the high places from Geba to Beersheba (23:8b)       10. Breaking down high place gates (23:8c)       11. Removing horses dedicated to the sun (23:11a)       12. Burning the chariots of the sun (23:11b)       13. Tearing down rooftop altars of Judah’s kings (23:12a)       14. Destroying altars made by Manasseh in the temple courts (23:12b)       15. Defiling high places east of Jerusalem built by Solomon (23:13)       16. Breaking pillars, cutting down Asherim, and filling their sites with       human bones (23:14)              Extending Reform into Former Northern Territory (23:15–20)              17. Tearing down the altar at Bethel (23:15)       18. Burning the high place and grinding it to dust (23:15b)       19. Burning the Asherah at Bethel (23:15c)       20. Exhuming bones from tombs and burning them on the altar (23:16)       21. Preserving the tomb of the man of God who prophesied these events       (23:17–18)       22. Removing all shrines of the high places in the cities of Samaria (23:19)       23. Slaughtering the priests of the high places on their own altars (23:20a)       24. Burning human bones on those altars (23:20b)              Restoring Covenant Worship (23:21–23)              25. Commanding the observance of the Passover (23:21)       26. Celebrating a Passover unparalleled since the days of the judges       (23:22–23)              Eradicating Occult and Syncretistic Practices (23:24)              27. Removing mediums and necromancers (23:24a)       28. Destroying household gods (teraphim) (23:24b)       29. Eliminating idols and abominations throughout Judah and Jerusalem       (23:24c)              Summary Evaluation of His Reform (23:25)              30. Turning to the LORD with all his heart, soul, and might, according       to the Law of Moses (23:25)              These reforms show a comprehensive pattern:       – Renew the covenant.       – Remove false worship from God’s house.       – Defile and destroy rival altars.       – Extend reform beyond immediate borders.       – Restore biblical worship.       – Eliminate occult and private idolatry.              The chapter presents not a minor adjustment, but a sweeping national       cleansing grounded in the rediscovered Word of God.              --       Have you heard the good news Christ died for our sins (†), and God       raised Him from the dead?              That Christ died for our sins shows we're sinners who deserve the death       penalty. That God raised Him from the dead shows Christ's death       satisfied God's righteous demands against our sin (Romans 3:25; 1 John       2:1-2). This means God can now remain just, while forgiving you of your       sins, and saving you from eternal damnation.              On the basis of Christ's death and resurrection for our sins, call on       the name of the Lord to save you: "For 'everyone who calls on the name       of the Lord will be saved'" (Romans 10:13, ESV).              https://christrose.news/salvation              To automatically receive daily Bible teaching updates with colorful       images and website formatting, subscribe to my feed in a client like       Thunderbird:              https://www.christrose.news/feeds/posts/default              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
