   Thanks. I gave away my copy after reading it.   
      
   Getting back around to an Orwell topic (sort of), parts of that book were   
   embarrassingly heavy on the pulp violence. So knowing Doctorow isn't a hack   
   makes   
   ya wonder, was he trying to say something subtle about what gangster novels are   
   like, or was he just plain writing a gangster novel?
